The Centre hosts a number of internationally recognised research groups operating in the fields of Archaeology and Art History on the one hand, and the Physical Sciences and Informatics applied to the study of materials and environment on the other (Physical Chemistry, Biology, Mineralogy, Petrography, Computer Science, and Civil and Environmental Engineering). The groups are belonging to six different Departments of the University of Perugia and to some laboratories of the Inter-University National Consortium on Science and Technology of Materials (INSTM). They are:

1. Department of Humanities, Languages, Literature and Civilization Ancient and Modern (DHLLCAM)

2. Department of Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology (DCBB) - Ref.: Prof. Aldo Romani, Coordinator of the Centre;

3. Department of Physics and Geology (DPG)

4. Department of Medicine and Surgery- (DMS)

5. Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DCEE)

6. Inter-University National Consortium on Science and Technology of Materials (INSTM)- O.U. of Perugia, Firenze, Padova, Milano, and Venezia)

7. National Research Concil (CNR)

The current activity of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Perugia includes a Section of Methodology of Archaeological Research which develops archaeological excavations in Italy or abroad. The Department of Literatures – Languages and Ancient and Modern Civilizations includes art-historical studies on paintings and sculptures frequently associated to scientific and technical investigations on materials.
The groups of the scientific Departments (Chemistry, Biology and Biotechnology, Physics and Geology, and Engineering, Experimental Medicine) are active in the field of research, development and applications of analysis techniques applied to cultural heritage artefacts, within national and international programmes.
